Here I have drawn an outline of froggy on a blank of red oak wood.
The part that made me sweat! The outline has been carefully carved in to the wood.
Froggy's full silhouette carved in. He's ready for some color!
The first pour of color for froggy. The feet and body were poured at the same time. I think that the fade from green to orange this created looks very good and life-like.
The first pour has been sanded down for further refinement.
I have drawn in more detail to guide me in my carving. Scary! A mistake here will cost me days.
Success! I was nervous for no reason, it went great!
Some accents on the body of froggy have been poured. Also the eyes are attempted here.
Sanded down again.
Here I have drawn in some more color features for froggy's body. This is when I decided the eye was not at all what I wanted. After this picture, I carved the eye back out to start over on it...
Yellow accents for froggy! Also, the eye has been re-poured. Hopefully the colors are better after sanding.
Sanded back down. I am so much happier with the colors in the eyes.
Here is the pile of wood I milled down for the rest of the project. Red Oak and Ash wood.
The chevrons getting underway. Where did that wine bottle come from?? I don't drink!
Froggy's eye needed a pupil. Now he has one so he can keep an eye on me while I work.
An image of chevrons about to be cut.
Chevron pieces all cut and ready for assembly.
Chevrons are glued up and you can see the side accents for froggy underneath the chevrons.
Side accents are being glue to froggy.
Showing how the chevrons were assembled.
Another shot of chevron assembly.
Froggy is out of the clamps again with his sides attached.
Froggy is back in the clamps, the chevrons are being attached to the rest.
In this image froggy gets his first coat of finish to protect him from glue and scratches as he is assembled.
An image showing how I sealed the bottom so I could add some color to the chevrons.
Green accent added to the chevron. I love it.
The sides of the project shown with froggy. The routes that are visible are where froggy will inset into the sides.
Finally, froggy is shown completely assembled with several coats of finish applied.
